Lunar Occultation Data

The Moon can occult five bright stars: El Nath (5N23) and Aldebaran (5S28) in Taurus, Regulus (0N28) in Leo, Spica (2S03) in Virgo and Antares (4S33) in Scorpio. Because Antares, Aldebaran and El Nath are at a celestial latitude roughly equal to the greatest celestial latitude which can be achieved by the Moon, their occultations by the Moon thus follow a similar rhythm to the Moon's stand-stills and, of course, the nodal cycle. Thus El Nath, Antares and Aldebaran are occulted in a nineteen year cycle. However, because Spica and Regulus are closer to the ecliptic, their occultations by the Moon are more irregular.
